Weekly update: 2017 week #38

This is our weekly update for the 38th week of 2017. The features and fixes might arrive at the desktop and mobile app a few days later than the web version.

  • [Import] Import from OPML. Now you can click on the “+” icon at the top of the file pane and directly import an OPML file into a new document.

  • [Search] Search Everywhere results now correctly use the checked item and note visibility settings. For example, if you’ve set checked items to be hidden and notes to only show 1st line, this will now be consistent in Search Everywhere results.
  • [Daily backup] Now you can move the Dynalist backup folder in your Google Drive root, as long as you don’t rename it.

  • [Print] Fixed printed document doesn’t take full page width when the Shortcut & Formatting Help pane is open.
  • It’s great that global search can respect note preferences now. Is there a reason why this isn’t applied to local searches as well? Or is this coming?

    • Sorry I don’t understand the question. It’s applied to local searches already, so there’s nothing to fix.

Is it not applied to local search results on your end?

      • Local searches are the same as before for me.

        • Yes, and it already respects the setting, i.e. checked items are not shown during search if set to hidden, same for notes.

          • But this doesn’t seem to work for notes in a local search, just global search.

          • You mean when note matches search query, it should show up regardless of note visibility setting?

          • No, the opposite. That local search should respect the note visibility setting, which it only does for global search currently.

          • We thought the expected behavior (global search) you’re talking about was a bug and fixed that. Can we please move our discussion here? http://talk.dynalist.io/t/visibility-settings-dont-apply-in-local-search/1266

  • I love the improvement to Daily backup!!! Thanks!

Fantastic! Thank you so much. I don’t know if it is a general new feature (import from OPML) or if it is just a location new icon, but I was trying to “sync” Dynalist with MindNote and is possible:)
When I am in the mood of seeing and edit a Dynalist list in a mindmap I download a backup and then I open the list in Mindnode from OPML. Then, I modify there and convert it again into a Dynalist outline by exporting OPML.

    • Great o see it’s helpful to you! 🙂

To answer your question, it was possible to paste OPML into Dynalist, but that involves opening OPML in plain text editors (not Word or Mac’s default text app), select all, and then copy paste. The import file part is the new feature, which also makes the entire process much easier and more intuitive.
